GORDAN TUDOR

Gordan Tudor (1982), saxophone player and composer. He is educated in Split, Zagreb, Amsterdam and Paris; winner of numerous national and international competitions for saxophone players and has performed throughout Europe and North America in various chamber ensembles (duo, trio, quartet, solo + electronics) and with many orchestras as a solo player. Gordan is alto saxophone player of highly aclaimed Papandopulo Quartet.

He received the Rector’s Award; award Judita for the most complete musical achievement at the 52nd Split Summer Festival, the Zagreb Philharmonic Award for the best young Croatian musician, LIONS CLUB GRAND PRIX, the second prize at the INTERNATIONAL COMPOSITION COMPETITION-MARENOSTRUM Berlin/Fossacesia, an annual award for young composers by Foundation Rudolf & Margita Matz, two Porin awards for Classical Music - Best Composition and many others.

As a performer, he premiered thirty pieces of Croatian and foreign authors, and as a composer experimented with various genres and combinations of instruments. His last work, ballet noir “The Plumber” has been in the &TD theatre’s repertoire for four seasons, and critics have unanimously proclaimed it one of the sensations of the Zagreb Music Biennale 2009.

The Ballet “The Plumber” had the honor of being the only dance performance at the 60th Dubrovnik Summer Festival. He is the artistic director of the festival “New Music Days” in Split, which annually hosts eminent musicians from all over the world and works as a saxophone teacher at the Split University Art Academy, music school Josip Hatze, and as a professor of saxophone at the Music Academy in Novi Sad (Serbia).

Gordan Tudor is recording his first album which will be released by CANTUS. He spent summer of 2011 in residence at the Bang on a Can Summer Festival – Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (North Adams, MA).
